Styled as an old-fashioned beauty parlour, with a modern twist, the decor was enough to lure me inside.

I booked in for one of the salon's pamper packages, the Pamper Me, which included a variety of treatments and a traditional cream tea. What more could a girl want?

Staff attentiveness

As I arrived, I was shown into a little waiting room at the back of the salon. Black and white photographs of Marilyn Monroe adorned the walls and candles flickered on a shabby chic dressing table standing in the corner.

My therapist, Lizzie, was quick to offer me a drink and talk me through the treatments. I had an express facial, back massage, express manicure and pedicure.

Even though I was the first appointment of the day, as soon as the salon opened, everything was ready for me and right from the start I was treated like a VIP.

Were you happy?

I left the salon feeling so relaxed – almost as if I'd spent the day at a spa. The back massage was the perfect start to the pamper and really relaxed me.

I suffer with dry skin and the facial worked wonders. I couldn't believe how soft and moisturised my face felt for days afterwards.

After this, I was taken into the quiet waiting area at the back (which I had to myself) and snuggled up in a fluffy dressing gown while my feet were soaked in a warm foot spa.

I spent the time reading magazines and enjoying a scone with fresh cream and raspberry jam, along with a cup of tea in pretty vintage china.

Lizzie then showed me into the treatment room, where I had my pedicure, followed by my manicure.

Pamper rating

I left The Powder Room feeling so relaxed and revived. Although the salon is on a busy road in Hull, I felt a million miles away from any hustle and bustle.

I was pampered from top to toe. It was a chance to unwind and give my body a much-needed boost.
